First Meeting held on 23rd
May, 2006
In the
first meeting of the India Rejuvenation Initiative (IRI)
held on
23rd May, 2006,
the following decisions
were taken:
§ The Group would, henceforth, be known as ‘India Rejuvenation Initiative’(Bharat Punarotthan Abhiyan)
§
The Group would remain apolitical body committed to attaining
its objectives
§
The Group would remain a forum of like-minded people working
for strengthening probity in public life
§
The activities of the Group should lead to a strong movement
in the country
§
All decisions will be taken through consensus.
§
Shri V.S.Pandey will act as the coordinator of the Group.
§ All members are authorized to issue letters, statements,
reports on behalf of the Group after obtaining the consent
of the members.
§
All members will make a token contribution of Rs.1000 each to
the Coordinator.
§
A brief note on the proposed ‘Accountability/Integrity
Commission’ will be prepared and circulated to all
members and after evolving a consensus on the same, follow
up action will be taken up by the members.
§ ‘India Rejuvenation Initiative’
will network with other like minded groups active in other
States such as ‘Public Concern for Governance
Trust’ in Mumbai.
§ With a view to creating a congenial climate for ensuring
probity in public life, the Group will undertake the
following activities:-

Expose corruption in high places

Ensure that corrupt elements do not occupy key positions
-
Interact with and support honest civil servants so that they
begin to matter

Provide voice to those at the receiving end of an
insensitive and corrupt system

Mobilize public opinion for ensuring that ‘public
representatives’ remain ‘public
servants’, as
constitutionally ordained, and do not become ‘political
masters’
-
Mobilize public opinion to curtail gross misuse of ‘VIP
facilities’ at public places such as
airports, railway
stations, parking lots etc. These facilities should be
provided only as courtesy to visiting foreign dignitaries to
the country and for security of VVIPs such as President and
Prime Minister of India.

Scrutinize legislations / public policies for flaws which
contribute to corruption or protect vested interests

Work to ensure that institutions perform their duties
-
Work for promotion and strengthening of decentralized
governance in the country

Ensure regular interaction with the youth/students in
colleges and universities
Mobilize
public opinion for providing opportunities for all in
education system – to include ‘skill upgradation’ and
‘competency testing and certification’ so that country gets
educated and skilled work force. |
